Martinus has grown rapidly to become one of Australia’s leading rail construction companies. This journey began in 2005 when founder and CEO, Treaven Martinus began supplying specialist rail products. Over the next five years the business steadily grew to employ a team of ten.
As the business grew clients began requesting not only the products but also the expertise to install them into rail networks. By 2012 Martinus had expanded into rail construction and in 2013 won four large tenders which kicked off the company’s accelerated growth. These projects were:
- BlueScope’s Port Kembla coal terminal upgrade
- ARTC’s Gunnedah yard rationalisation
- Aurizon’s Hexham long-term stabling facility
- Moreton Bay rail project
In 2016 we purchased our first rail tamper and in 2017 we secured our first major project with a contract value of $250m.
From there we’ve continued to win large tenders for maintenance and construction works. In 2020 we expanded into Chile and now own the country’s largest fleet of specialist rail plant and equipment which we use to maintain the national rail network, EFE.
The growth of the rail infrastructure division necessitated the separation of the original rail product sales business. In 2021, Salix was established as a separate company to continue supplying products to the rail infrastructure industry.
In 2023 we expanded into the United States, where investment in rail infrastructure is increasing through the purchase of Bottom Line.
From small beginnings in suburban Sydney, Martinus has grown into Australia’s largest privately-owned rail infrastructure company employing over 1,900 staff across four countries.
