As part of the $1.9B extension of Rio Tinto’s mining activities in the Weipa area, Martinus was contracted by civil contractor QH and M Birt for the construction of a new bauxite stockyard.
The scope included:
- Supply and installation of 8.1km of AS68 crane rail
- Supply and installation of four 1km runs of standard gauge ballasted track – two stacker and two reclaimer
- Supply and installation of 215 cross ties to ensure crane gauge is maintained along the track
- Painting of rail to very high standards in areas where vehicle crossings were to be installed
- Supply of two 90m STRAIL® panel vehicle crossings
