Martinus worked collaboratively with Adani through an early works agreement. This resulted in the development and delivery of an optimised and innovative design and construction program for the civil and track packages.

Martinus delivered two packages for the Carmichael Mine, one for track works and civil works.

The scope of work the track package included:

Construction of 210km of track

  • Supply and construction of two flash butt welding yards
  • 15,000 flash butt welds
  • Mobilisation of all track construction plant and equipment
  • Installation of over 600,000 tonnes of ballast
  • Supply and installation of turnouts and special trackwork

The $230 million Carmichael Rail Network North Civil Package was delivered under Martinus’ self-delivery model, which utilised local plant hire companies and our internal blue-collar workforce.

The scope of the civil package included:

  • 86 kilometres of rail formation works
  • Construction of 10 large multi-span waterway and road bridges
  • Installation of over 40km of culverts

The project team was based in Rockhampton and partnered with local and regional Queensland businesses and upheld the highest standards of project delivery across environmental and safety conditions. At the peak of works, the team consisted of over 100 staff and 600 blue collar workers.

The project was delivered on-time and exceeded all social sustainability targets, achieving a 9 per cent indigenous employment rate, and more than $70m spent within local regions and communities.
