In late 2020, Martinus was awarded the supply, installation, and commissioning of track and overhead wiring contract totalling $48 million for Link Alliance’s City Rail Link project. The City Rail Link (CRL) was a game-changer for Auckland and New Zealand’s largest ever transport infrastructure project.
The underground 3.4km twin-tunnel rail link runs at depths as low as 42 metres below Auckland’s city centre. This project has transformed the downtown Britomart Transport Centre into a two-way through-station connected to the Auckland rail network and more than doubled its capacity.
As part of the works, Martinus supplied and installed:
- 11,000m of track with 29,000 sleepers and 11,000 tonnes of ballast
- Six turnouts and one scissor crossover
- 9,000m of overhead wiring and 950 drop tubes and support arms
- 17,012m of rigid overhead conductor bar and overhead line equipment
- 12,700m of earth wire
The project team mobilised in early 2021 and remained on site for three years to deliver the work. Martinus engaged with local suppliers and subcontractors for the provision of materials and support services.
At the project’s peak, our team consisted of more than 50 staff and 200 blue-collar workers.
