The purpose of the project was to provide infrastructure to increase the rail capacity of the Kooragang Coal Terminal (KCT) by providing the ability to hold 6 trains ahead of the Kooragang Dump Stations.

The project also provides:
a) Reduced congestion on the wider rail network; and
b) Enhanced operational flexibility for KCT and thereby the wider network.

ARTC engaged Martinus to undertake these critical infrastructure works at the neck of the largest export port in the Hunter Valley.

ARTC – Kooragang Island Arrival Roads Stage 2 Turnout Installation and Track Construction project scope involved:

  • Installation of 1 no. 1:12 Martinus FNX turnouts
  • Installation of 1 no. 1:15 VAE SNX turnout
  • Installation of 1000m of plain line track on the new alignment
  • All associated track slews for the commissioning of the new arrival road

All of these works have been completed in short 62hr possession windows. Martinus have a team that has had extensive experience in the delivery of possession critical works and this ensures all stakeholders benefit from these projects with minimal risk.

This critical infrastructure project has been completed safely and on-time.
